Bockin Wins Title

Last week, Manahawkin resident and Gladiator Boxing team member
Joey Bockin competed in the USA Boxing Junior Nationals Boxing
Tournament in Augusta, Ga., and came home a winner.

Bockin won the 110-pound championship in the 10-year-old Bantam
Division, giving him his fourth amateur championship title during the
past year and a half.

He also won a 2006 Silver Gloves championship, a 2007 New Jersey
Junior Olympic title, and a 2007 Eastern Regional Junior Olympic crown.

This is great news for local boxing fans, since Bockin appears to be on
a road toward greater boxing things. At his age, with his success, I'm sure
Gladiator trained Shawn Darling is proud, as are his many fans.

Congratulations definitely are in order for this young man. And for those
who know him, give him a pat on the back for me as well.

Another bit of Gladiator news is that team captain Larry Desposito of
Barnegat this past Saturday won a bout at the Elizabeth Recreation Boxing
Show. Congratulations to Larry as well.
